The former White House Inn on Mayhill Road was built in the late 18th century and it is the oldest building in Maryhill still standing.
It was originally built as a public house for those using the canal network. After many years of disuse, and in danger of dereliction, it was aquired by Free Wheel North to be developed into a cycle hub.
At the moment it serves as a starting place for Led Rides, as a place to meet and discuss ideas, and to organise various events and exhibitions.
We are currently working to renovate the 200 year old White House building. We want to modernise it, make it more accessible, and to enhance its potential. Some of our thinking is visible in the sketch.
In the future, we aim to develop connections with research and academic organisations in the field of cycling, street design and public health and display our findings at the White House. We will also be creating an archive of publications, research findings, and film examples of excellence in human-scale architecture and design in action across the world.
